Who is a draftsman of wooden and wood-based products and what can they do?

A draftsman of wooden and wood-based products works in a company involved in manufacturing, selling, or installing products made from wood or wood-based materials, such as furniture, utensils, and fittings. They function as a team member within the company and collaborate with various parties including interior architects, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.

Their main responsibilities include designing and creating technical documentation for wood products, developing the necessary technology for manufacturing these products, and preparing the production process. Draftsman of wooden and wood-based products do not deal with designing structural elements of buildings.

How can one become a draftsman of wooden and wood-based products?

Form of study: non-stationary or workplace-based learning, one day per week.

Duration of study: 6 months.

Practical training volume of 10 ECTS credits (approximately 260 astronomical hours) is integrated into the modules' total hours.

Prerequisites for starting: secondary education and at least a level 4 or 5 qualification in woodworking or relevant work experience in the woodworking field.

Upon completion of the curriculum, a level 5 professional exam for wood products designer-technologists is taken.

What is learned?

Students learn to prepare technical documentation and control programs for CNC equipment, prepare production processes, and study entrepreneurship. Specialized further education and new technological methods are available at the wood processing and furniture production competence center, TSENTER.

What comes next?

A draftsman of wooden and wood-based products gains competencies that enable them to work as a top specialist in companies involved in manufacturing, selling, or installing products made from wood or wood-based materials.
